Halon and Refrigerant Services manufactures and supplies industrial gases, and handles halons and refrigerants as the controlled substances they are — from working out what is actually in a container through to the route the material finally takes. The company also carries out remediation and waste management work, and the technical testing and analysis that usually has to come first. Halons were used for decades as fire-suppression agents and are still found in decommissioned systems and forgotten cylinders. Refrigerants come out of cooling and process plant. Both are controlled substances in the United Kingdom, and we handle them as regulated material rather than as ordinary stock.
The point at which a material stops being a working charge and becomes something that has to be described accurately, passed to somebody entitled to receive it, and documented. On this side of the work the paperwork is most of the deliverable, and we would far rather ask the awkward questions at the enquiry stage than halfway through a clearance.
A label is a claim, not a fact. Containers get refilled, systems get topped up, and labels describe what went in years ago. Establishing what is really in a vessel is the step that decides whether the rest of the job is simple or complicated, which is why it is the sensible place to start rather than an optional extra.

Where a job falls under those rules we set out at the start what they mean for it — the handling, the labelling, the movement and the records — so that whoever hands the material over ends up with documentation that stands up if anybody asks about it later.
